PLASMA PEN® SKIN TIGHTENING

PLASMA PEN® SKIN TIGHTENING treatment represents a groundbreaking advancement in non-surgical skin tightening technology. For years, plasma technology has been used across Europe to achieve remarkable cosmetic enhancements in various areas of the body. Now, this same cutting-edge technology is available in the United States. Plasma skin tightening has gained widespread popularity in the fields of plastic surgery and cosmetic dermatology due to its minimally invasive nature and its ability to deliver results that can rival many surgical procedures. The Plasma Pen® treatment enhances your appearance by providing a brighter, more contoured, and youthful look. Results are virtually immediate and long-lasting, eliminating the need for fillers or surgical correction. Plasma Pen® is revolutionizing skin revitalization, offering significant improvements in skin tone and texture.

WHY DO WE NEED PLASMA PEN®

Just as the scaffolding of a building, over time, can weaken, rust, and lose its strength, our skin undergoes a similar process with age. The scaffolding in our skin, primarily collagen and elastin, thins and deteriorates, leading to lines, wrinkles, and sagging. As the dermal layer thins and collagen production slows, the skin loses its firmness and elasticity. The elastin, which supports the skin's flexibility, degrades and loses its ability to maintain a solid structure, much like how a scaffold can buckle and sag.

Developed by Louise Walsh, the Plasma Pen offers a revolutionary solution with its natural soft-surgery plasma fibroblasting technology. This advanced treatment uses state-of-the-art nitrogen plasma to effectively combat the effects of aging. Through precise technique, rigorous training, and comprehensive pre- and post-treatment care, the Plasma Pen significantly tightens, lifts, resurfaces, rejuvenates, and regenerates virtually any area of the skin.

WHAT ARE FIBROBLASTS?

Fibroblasts are the primary cells in connective tissue responsible for producing Type III collagen, which works in tandem with Type I collagen over approximately three months. Both Type I and Type III collagen are crucial for providing strength to the skin's dense connective tissues. They are renowned for reducing fine lines, wrinkles, and micro-furrows, while enhancing the skin's elasticity, suppleness, and hydration. Typically, fibroblasts are inactive and are known as fibrocytes. These cells rarely divide and do not produce collagen unless reactivated through a wound healing process or inflammatory response. The Plasma Pen precisely stimulates this process, reactivating fibroblasts to boost collagen production and rejuvenate the skin.

WHAT IS INVOLVED IN THE HEALING PROCESS?

After a Plasma Pen treatment, you’ll notice "neoepithelialization," where new epithelial tissue forms and appears as tiny carbon crusts. These crusts, which act as a natural protective barrier, will flake off within 3 to 7 days as the skin’s rejuvenated “neoepidermis” emerges. The Plasma Pen is truly transformative, offering benefits beyond the initial superficial healing. Over the next 12 weeks, the nitrogen plasma treatment triggers a comprehensive healing response marked by significant dermal remodeling. This includes: Neocollagenesis: The production of new collagen. Neoelastogenesis: The creation of new elastin. Cross-linking: The alignment and linking of collagen and elastin fibrils, which strengthens and lifts the skin structure. Reversal of Elastotic Change: The repair of prematurely degenerated dermal elastic tissue. The inflammatory response initiated by the treatment activates M2 Macrophages, which help clear cellular debris and reduce inflammation. Additionally, basal keratinocytes migrate from the skin’s basal layer to the surface, filling in gaps caused by the micro-trauma. Other notable processes include neovascularization, the formation of new blood vessels, and the release of growth factors such as cytokines—small proteins crucial for cell signaling, immune response modulation, and cell repair. These positive changes contribute to long-term tissue stability and help prevent, mitigate, or slow down many negative effects associated with aging.

2. Am I a good candidate for this treatment? / Will this treatment work for me?

Unlike some alternatives, Plasma Pen® has been clinically proven to effectively revitalize skin for both women and men across a wide range of tones, from light to very dark. However, for full Plasma Pen® treatments, we typically treat light to medium skin tones. Asian and African skin types may not be eligible for full face treatments. To determine if you are a suitable candidate for the Plasma Pen® treatment, we offer a complimentary 10-minute consultation at RichSkin. When administered properly and with appropriate intervals under the supervision of a physician or nurse practitioner, Plasma Pen® treatments can be safely utilized for years.

3. Is Plasma Pen® treatment painful?

Topical numbing agents are applied to the skin during the treatment to enhance comfort. Most clients experience minimal discomfort, often describing the sensation as a mild tingling. However, the level of discomfort may vary depending on the treatment area, particularly for delicate regions like the eyelids where the skin is thinnest. Our advanced device and super-fine probes enable our providers to work efficiently, which helps minimize potential discomfort. Nonetheless, individual sensitivities and tolerances may affect your experience.

4. When will I see results?

While the results of the treatment can be dramatic from day one, and the treated area may appear healed quickly, it takes several weeks to a few months to fully see and appreciate the complete effects of the initial treatment.

5. How many treatment will I need?

For most, 1 treatment is enough. Sometimes a second treatment is needed for optimal results

6. Do I need to do anything to prepare for the treatment?

Ensure your skin is clean before your treatment. Avoid applying lotions, creams, perfumes, powders, or makeup, and refrain from tanning. Remove all jewelry from the area being treated. If the treatment area has excessive hair, shave it beforehand. Additionally, be prepared to provide information about your medical history, as your provider will likely ask for it.

DURING THE TREATMENT

1. How long does a treatment session last?

Each session can last 45 minutes to a couple hours, depending on the areas being treated.

2. What does the treatment feel like?

It feels a tiny zap that many report feels like a light shock. Your face will then feel warm, like a sunburn.

3. Will it be painful?

Plasma Pen® skin tightening treatments may cause some discomfort, but they are generally not painful. Topical numbing agents are applied to the skin to minimize discomfort. Most clients experience minimal irritation, describing the sensation as a mild tingling. However, sensitivity can vary depending on the treatment area, with procedures on the eyelids being more sensitive due to the thinner skin. Our advanced device and super-fine probes enable our providers to work efficiently, reducing potential discomfort. Individual sensitivities and tolerances may affect your experience.

AFTER THE TREATMENT

1. How will my skin feel after my treatment?

Your skin may feel warm, like a sunburn, and can remain red for anywhere from a few hours to a few days depending on the intensity of the treatment. Be sure to follow instructions for before and after your treatment.

2. How long will the results last and are they permanent?

After your treatment, your results will continue to improve. However, one touch- up session may be needed approximately every 6 months, depending on how your skin responds.

3. Is there any downtime/How long is recovery time?

Mild swelling, particularly around the eyes and the periorbital area, is common and typically lasts from 1 to 5 days post-treatment. This swelling is usually minimal and expected. Plasma Pen® treatments often have a shorter downtime and quicker recovery compared to other devices. Avoid covering the treated area with plasters, occlusive dressings, makeup, mascara, creams, or any other products until it is fully healed, except for specific products recommended by RichSkin. Scabs will naturally fall off within 3-7 days. Once healed, use SPF 50 sunscreen for at least 12 weeks, and avoid sunbeds and sunbathing to protect your skin.

4. Do I need to do anything after my treatment?

If your skin feels hot, using a fan can help cool it down. Avoid touching or scratching the treatment area. Refrain from applying lotion, makeup, or any other products until the scabs have fallen off. To alleviate itching and support healing, you may use aloe vera up to three times a day. For the first 2 days after your session, avoid rigorous exercise, hot baths, or massages in the treatment area. Keep your skin clean and protected from the sun, and avoid tanning. RichSkin will provide you with a post-care skin regimen; please follow the instructions included in the package.

5. If I got a treatment on my face, can I put makeup up on right after?

Wait until the treated area has fully healed before applying any makeup or lotion. To keep the scabs or crusts moist and to help with itching, apply aloe vera up to three times per day. This will also aid in the healing process. The scabs will naturally fall off within 3-7 days. Do not pick or scratch at the area; allow the scabs to fall off on their own.

6.  Will I experience any complications from the Plasma Pen treatment?

Complications with Plasma Pen® are extremely rare. The device is renowned for its minimal downtime, quick recovery, and outstanding results. Any rare issues are generally not caused by the device or provider but may arise from undisclosed contraindications or medical conditions, or from not following the aftercare management plan.
