PLATELET RICH PLASMA (PRP)

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is a rejuvenation treatment utilizing your own plasma to stimulate collagen production and enhance cell migration. This process helps diminish lines, folds, and wrinkles.

PRP therapy involves injecting the patient's own platelets and fibrin into areas such as the face, hands, and neck to treat wrinkles and scars. It can be performed alone or combined with microneedling, a technique sometimes referred to as the "vampire facelift," a term trademarked by cosmetic surgeon Charles Runels. PRP is a minimally invasive procedure, typically lasting around 60 minutes per session, and can deliver improvements for up to 18 months.

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) injections are effective for addressing various cosmetic concerns, particularly in areas challenging to treat with other non-invasive methods. Key benefits of PRP include:

Enhanced Skin Texture: Improves the overall quality and smoothness of the skin.

Volume Addition: Adds volume to the face, hands, and neck.

Treatment of Fine Lines and Wrinkles: Reduces fine lines and wrinkles, particularly around and below the eyes.

Plumping of Undereye Grooves: Helps fill and smooth undereye hollows.

Minimization of Wrinkles and Lines Around the Mouth: Diminishes wrinkles and lines in the mouth area.

Scar Reduction: Effective in eliminating acne scars and stretch marks.

Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about your PRP treatment

BEFORE THE TREATMENT

What is Platelet Rich Plasma?

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP), also known as autologous conditioned plasma, is a concentrated form of blood plasma that is derived from your own blood. The process involves centrifuging the blood to separate and concentrate the plasma, removing red blood cells. PRP is rich in growth factors and cytokines, which are essential for stimulating healing and rejuvenation. These components help to enhance collagen production, improve skin texture, and address various cosmetic concerns.

How does PRP help my skin?

Platelets, which are cells in the blood responsible for healing and tissue regeneration, play a crucial role in PRP treatments. When PRP is injected into targeted areas of the skin, it acts as a matrix that stimulates your body’s natural collagen production. This process promotes tissue regeneration, which helps to naturally smooth and tighten the skin. As a result, PRP effectively softens wrinkles and enhances the skin's texture and tone.

How does PRP therapy differ from other injections or fillers.

Hyaluronic acid fillers, like Restylane and Juvederm, are used to target specific lines and folds by adding volume to areas such as the nasolabial folds around the mouth or the lips. These fillers, which generally last from 6 to 18 months, provide localized improvement by softening deeper lines and plumping areas where volume has been lost. On the other hand, Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy offers a different approach to facial rejuvenation. PRP works by stimulating your body's own collagen production, which enhances overall skin quality, tightness, and texture. It is particularly useful for addressing broader concerns such as facial volume loss, under-eye hollows, and skin tone improvements. PRP is effective in areas where hyaluronic acid fillers might not be suitable or safe to use. Combining PRP with hyaluronic acid fillers can provide comprehensive results. While fillers like Restylane and Juvederm address specific lines and folds, PRP enhances the overall volume and quality of the skin, leading to a more youthful and revitalized appearance.

DURING THE TREATMENT

What should I expect? Does treatment hurt?

During the Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) procedure, a small amount of blood is drawn from you. While the PRP is being prepared, your skin will be cleansed and prepped for the injections. The injection process itself may take up to 30-40 minutes and involves the use of tiny gauge needles and microcannulas.

Although the procedure might be somewhat uncomfortable, RichSkin uses a specially compounded topical anesthetic to ensure you remain as comfortable as possible throughout. Post-treatment, you might experience mild swelling, redness, or bruising, which typically resolves within 1-3 days, though it may persist longer in rare cases. Since PRP is derived from your own cells, the risk of negative side effects is minimal.

AFTER THE TREATMENT

When will I see results?

The aim of PRP injections is to enhance skin tone and texture, tighten skin, and soften lines and pores. Initial results typically start to appear 3-4 weeks after the treatment, with continued improvement over time. For optimal results, three treatment sessions are generally recommended, spaced 1-2 months apart.

PRP therapy can be combined with other treatments like laser therapy, chemical peels, Restylane, Juvederm, BOTOX® Cosmetic, and Dysport® to address a patient’s specific needs and achieve a youthful appearance. To maintain results, it’s advisable to have maintenance PRP treatments at least once a year.
