MICRONEEDLING

Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure designed to rejuvenate the skin. Using a device with fine needles, tiny punctures are created in the top layer of the skin, which prompts the body to produce new collagen and elastin. This can lead to improved skin texture, firmness, and a reduction in scars, acne scars, pore size, and stretch marks. Microneedling can also be enhanced with topical treatments, such as PRP (platelet-rich plasma), commonly known as the Vampire Facial, a favorite among celebrities prepping for red carpet events.

RichSkin utilizes the SkinPen by Bellus Medical, the first FDA-cleared microneedling device. The SkinPen induces controlled micro-injuries that activate your body’s natural wound healing process while minimizing cellular damage. This results in effective remodeling of scar tissue while preserving the overall skin structure. The wound-repair process involves three phases: Inflammation: The skin’s response to the micro-injuries involves disinfecting the wounds, removing debris, increasing blood flow, and starting the creation of new tissue. Proliferation: The wound is rebuilt with new granulation cells, part of the extracellular matrix, and a new network of blood vessels forms. Remodeling: The wound is replaced with new dermal tissues and blood vessels. The effectiveness of SkinPen is backed by clinical trials, with 90% of subjects recommending the procedure to family and friends.

Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about your Microneedling SkinPen®â€‹ treatment

BEFORE THE TREATMENT

1. What device does RickSkin use for microneedling?

RichSkin utilizes the SkinPen by Bellus Medical, the world's first FDA-cleared microneedling device. Clinically proven to safely and effectively treat facial acne scars in individuals aged 22 and older, SkinPen offers significant benefits with just three non-invasive, affordable treatments spaced 30 days apart. Experience improved skin appearance for up to six months after your final treatment and step out with renewed confidence.

2. Am I a good candidate for this treatment? / Will this treatment work for me?

Unlike some alternatives, SkinPen has been clinically proven to be effective for both women and men with all skin tones, from light to very dark. With proper spacing and oversight by a physician or nurse practitioner, SkinPen treatments can be safely utilized over the long term.

3. How many sessions will I need to see results?

Most patients typically undergo 3-6 treatments per area, spaced 4-6 weeks apart. The exact number of sessions required can vary based on individual needs and the treatment area. After achieving desired results, 1-2 maintenance treatments per year are recommended to sustain improvements.

4. How often/far apart should the treatments be?

Treatments are done 4-6 weeks apart.

5. Do I need to do anything to prepare for the treatment?

Ensure your skin is clean before your treatment. Avoid applying lotions, creams, perfumes, powders, or makeup, and steer clear of tanning. Remove any jewelry from the treatment area and shave any excessive hair if necessary. Additionally, have your medical history ready, as your provider may ask for this information.

DURING THE TREATMENT

1. How long does a treatment session last?

Approximately 45 minutes, depending on the area being treated.

2. What does the treatment feel like?

During the treatment, you’ll feel tiny pins on your skin followed by a brief sensation similar to a zap. Afterward, your face will feel warm, similar to a sunburn.

3. Will it be painful?

SkinPen microneedling treatments may cause slight discomfort but are generally not painful. You’ll experience intense heat, much like a sunburn, and your face may appear red immediately after the treatment. For more intensive procedures, a topical numbing cream can be applied to help minimize discomfort.

AFTER THE TREATMENT

1. How will my skin feel after my treatment?

Your skin may feel warm, similar to a sunburn, and could stay red for a few hours to a few days, depending on the treatment's intensity. It's important to follow pre- and post-treatment instructions carefully.

2. How long will the results last and are they permanent?

After your final treatment, you’ll continue to see improvements. Depending on your skin's response, a touch-up session every 6 months may be needed to maintain results.

3. Is there any downtime/How long is recovery time?

Yes, but there is minimal downtime. For 48 hours post-treatment (up to 5 days for more aggressive treatments), avoid applying or rubbing anything on your skin, including water or sweat. After 24 hours, you can resume your regular skincare routine and apply makeup. Use sunscreen (at least SPF 30) and avoid rigorous exercise, hot baths, or massages on the treated area for the first 2 days. Keep your skin clean, protected from the sun, and avoid tanning.

4. Do I need to do anything after my treatment?

If your skin feels hot, use a fan to cool it down. Avoid touching or scratching the treatment area and do not apply lotion, makeup, or water for the first 24 hours. After 24 hours, apply sunscreen (at least SPF 30), ideally one without chemicals. For the first 2 days, avoid rigorous exercise, hot baths, or massages on the treatment area. Keep your skin clean, protected from the sun, and avoid tanning. RichSkin will provide a post-care regimen; follow the instructions provided.

5. If I got a treatment on my face, can I put makeup up on right after?

Wait until 24 hours after your treatment to apply any makeup or lotion.
